Mr. Jahanzeb Awan is a partner at M/s Khalid Anwer & Co / M/s A.K. Brohi & Co. It is a leading chamber/ firm of Pakistan and its current and former members have been involved in high-profile constitutional, civil and commercial law litigation from the time of formation of Pakistan. The firm also has a standing tradition of public service with its former and current members having served as Law Ministers, Advisors and Judges of the Supreme Court and the Sindh High Court.
The chamber/ firm provides a range of services including litigation as well as advisory services to its clients. It regularly represents and advises the State Bank of Pakistan (Pakistan’s Central Bank), the Karachi Stock Exchange and the Central Depository Company. Jahanzeb appears regularly before the High Court of Sindh, Islamabad and Lahore. Jahanzeb also appears before various regulatory bodies and Tribunals all over the country. Jahanzeb also advises clients in relation to transactional and other corporate matters.
Jahanzeb was nominated for and attended the International Visitor Leadership Program sponsored by the US State Department. The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program for leaders of their fields. The alumni of the IVL Program include 330 current and former Presidents, Prime Ministers and many other distinguished leaders from the public and private sectors worldwide.
Jahanzeb is also the Convenor of the Strategic Advisory Group which has been formed to monitor and review the Enhanced Democratic Accountability and Civic Engagement (EDACE) project which is being funded by the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office. This project aims to find opportunities to make short-term, high-impact grants to improve rights awareness, citizen engagement, access to justice, and provision of security services to ensure that Pakistani citizen rights and democratic processes are strengthened at provincial and local levels.
Jahanzeb serves on the board of various charitable institutions which are working actively in the fields of affordable healthcare, access to justice, education and old peoples’ home.
Jahanzeb is regularly invited by various Governmental/ Semi-Governmental/ Non-Governmental bodies to give lectures, conduct workshops and provide input on various laws. Jahanzeb has also been involved in the training of district and civil judges, members of the police force, lawyers and members of the civil society.
Jahanzeb is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn. He has attended the Inns of Court School of Law (UK), the University of Sheffield (UK) and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA). Jahanzeb is certified by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to conduct the directors’ training program which is prescribed by the Code of Corporate Governance for directors of public listed companies. Jahanzeb is also certified by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) & the Centre for Dispute Resolution (CEDR, UK) to train directors of listed companies in issues pertaining to Corporate Governance, in general, and alternative dispute resolution, in particular.
