Mr. Zaffar A. Khan graduated as a mechanical engineer and soon thereafter joined Exxon Chemical which following an employee led buyout became Engro Chemical. He retired from the Company in 2004 after serving for 35 years, the last 6 were as President & CEO. During the early years of his career, he served Exxon Chemical for 10 years in Hong Kong, Singapore and USA in the petrochemical business. He has undertaken several short courses at the Harvard Business School, INSEAD and the University of Hawaii. Mr Zaffar Khan has served on a number of diverse boards both in the private and public sector, and civil society organisations. These aside from the various Engro boards include The State Bank of Pakistan, United Bank, Sui Southern Gas, Ufone, PTCL, Karachi Stock Exchange, PIA, Unilever Pakistan and International Industries Ltd . He is currently serving on the Boards of Shell Pakistan, BISP, Pakistan Security Printing Corp, Data Check, Acumen Pakistan and the Pakistan centre for Philanthropy. Mr Zaffar Khan also teaches at IBA where he is an Adjunct Professor. Mr. Zaffar Khan has served as President of the Overseas Chamber of Commerce and Industry and on several Committees of the Government of Pakistan notably the Economic Advisory Committee, Pay & Pension Committee, and the Committee that recommended the National Environment Quality Standards. Mr. Zaffar A. Khan is a recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz.
